Social ventures are companies that pursue both social values and financial returns, and solve social problems with innovative business models. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the business status of social ventures in Seoul and reflect the results in future major policies. In Seoul, social ventures have been in business for four to seven years, accounting for 51.8% of all businesses. The majority of CEOs are in their 20~30 years old, accounting for 50.0%. The largest sector is manufacturing, accounting for 28.9%. The next largest businesses are information and communication technology (24.1%) and professional, scientific and technical services (12.0%). Among the social problems to be solved, ‘vulnerable classes and socially disadvantaged people’ is chosen as the top priority at a significantly higher rate than other social problems. In the management sector, sales have grown at an average annual rate of 18.9% over the past three years, and net income, which was in the red until 2023, has since turned to a surplus. In a survey of management challenges, 70 percent of business owners responded with “financing” and “lack of market demand.” As policy proposals, the following two are proposed: 1) To promote sustainable social ventures, we need expanding support areas through laws and certification systems, establishing a stable support system for industry expansion, and supporting the expansion of promising industries and successful companies related to the 4th Industrial Revolution. 2) To restructure the role of the Social Venture Hub, it is necessary to review the capabilities of the entrusted institutions, strengthen safety and expertise, monitor graduates, and strengthen networking for new resident companies.
