The Seoul Metropolitan Governments project to encourage walking to build a happy city for pedestrians, “A City of Walkers, Seoul”
Since the election of the current administration in 2011, the SMG reflected on this matter while renewing its commitment to recovering the citizens5 right to walk. As part of efforts in thds direction, a comprehensive plan for a Vision for Seoul as a Pedestrian-Friendly City was established, launching numerous projects including the creation of No-Vehicle Avenue and pedestrian-friendly zones to improve the pedestrian environment. Additionally, when the administration was reelected in 2014, it announced the Ten Commandments for Pavement Blocks and the Ten Commandments for the Sidewalk, thereby strengthening its commitment to meeting citizens demand for a quality, pedestrian-friendly environment Going the extra-mile from creating “A Pedestrian-Friendly City, Seoul”, the SMG is making pedestrian-centered, detailed policies to usher in the era ofcity where pedestrians are the topmost priority, a city of walkers, Seoul”.
